How care & education works in practice

How do we teach?

In addition to our well-stocked and thoughtfully arranged classrooms, we deliver β€˜Daily Provocations’ which staff scaffold and support, to ensure learning and individual challenge for each child. Provocations are intentional and thoughtfully designed stimuli that are set up to spark children's curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking skills. These provocations are meant to inspire children to explore, experiment, and engage in meaningful learning experiences. The goal of provocations is to create an environment that is rich in opportunities for children to investigate, problem-solve, and make connections with the world around them.

By presenting open-ended materials, such as loose parts, art supplies, natural objects, or sensory materials, children are encouraged to use their imagination and creativity to manipulate and interact with the materials in their own unique ways.

Provocations are often based on children's interests, developmental levels, and learning goals. They can be set up in various areas of the nursery, such as the art corner, block area, or dramatic play space, and can change regularly to keep children engaged and challenged.

Educators play a crucial role in observing and documenting children's responses to provocations, as well as facilitating and extending their learning through open-ended questioning, scaffolding, and providing additional materials or resources. By carefully planning and implementing provocations, educators can create a dynamic and enriching learning environment that fosters children's natural curiosity, creativity, and love of learning.

Garden

The outdoor classroom is hugely important in the delivery of the EYFS curriculum. We are really fortunate that our garden is very well equipped with tunnels, dens and play houses, construction/building play, race track for ride-on toys and cars, art and quiet play and finally challenging climbing opportunities for older children! The garden was recently renovated and is regularly maintained, reviewed and updated. We ensure that all children have daily access to the outdoors. We go outside, whatever the weather, so please ensure your child has waterproof clothing in nursery!
